The AMP Training and Education (T&E) Committee is involved in multiple efforts related to continuing education in molecular pathology both for AMP members and the community.  I would like to extend a special acknowledgement to the outgoing Committee Chair, Jennifer Hunt and to the other outgoing members of the 2009 T&E
Committee.  The amazing number and quality of new and ongoing activities of the Committee represent a huge effort and commitment by everyone.  Welcome to the 2010 incoming T&E committee members Caroline Astbury, Lynn Wang, Janice Matthews-Greer, and Tina Edmonston
.

For the past several years, this Committee has organized a Community Pathology Outreach Program held in conjunction with our Annual Meeting. This year the outreach course was entitled “Real-time updates and new clinical applications in molecular pathology” and was very well attended. Thank you course instructors: Greg Tsongalis, Greg Storch, Loren Joseph, Adam Bagg and Iris Schrijver, for helping to make this a continued success.

Other educational activities organized by T&E include the online Webinars and Molecular Case Studies.  In December, Alex Cho from the Center for Genomic Medicine at Duke University gave a Webinar Update on Molecular Testing for Type 2 Diabetes Risk.  The first webinar for 2010 will be about MSI testing in colon cancer given by Antonia Sepulveda, on February 23rd.  Admission for all webinars is free and registration instructions will be posted on CHAMP.  The on-line case studies in molecular pathology are available on the AMP website under the education tab.   If you have any good ideas for webinars or are interested in submitting a case study, please let any member of the T&E Committee know.

The T&E Committee has a special relationship with AMP trainees and works to provide educational and informational resources for trainees to enhance their education and professional development.  There are two trainee junior members on this Committee. A special thanks goes to the outgoing Junior Committee members, Kandelaria Rumilla and Alison Cushman-Vokoun who have been invaluable to all the Committee’s activities, especially in coordinating the trainee luncheon discussion at the Annual Meeting and compiling a list of book resources in molecular pathology (available on the AMP website). Congratulations to the two new Junior Committee members, Dara Aisner and Alexander Craig Mackinnon.

In addition, the T&E Committee select the winners of the Young Investigators Awards (YIA). Congratulations to this years 2009 YIA winners: Kandelaria Rumilla, Maria E. Arcila, and Alexander C. Mackinnon.
