Advocacy News

In May 2017, AMP hosted advocacy events organized by the Professional Relations Committee and the Economic Affairs Committee. AMP President Federico A. Monzon, MD led a “Lunch and Learn” on May 8, where representatives from six cancer patient advocacy groups discussed recent advances in molecular testing and how the developments affect the treatment and prevention of cancer.

On May 17, Economic Affairs Committee Chair Samuel K. Caughron, MD headed a virtual meeting focusing on standards for and challenges of clinical utility for molecular testing. Over 15 representatives from Medicare Administrative Contractors and private insurance companies participated in the conversation. During the discussion, various case studies were used to exemplify the issues regarding clinical utility that labs and payers face. AMP’s advocacy efforts will continue through the summer with additional Lunch and Learn and payer engagement events already in the works.

AMP Hosts Biennial Molecular Genetic Pathology Review Course

On June 1-4, AMP welcomed 55 attendees to the biennial live Molecular Genetic Pathology (MGP) Review Course. Over the course of 3.5 days of intense updates and review of molecular diagnostics, participants had the opportunity to learn directly from recognized experts in molecular pathology, most of whom hold MGP certification. The MGP course is geared towards individuals preparing for the Molecular Genetic Pathology Subspecialty Certification Exam or for those looking for a refresher or an introduction to molecular genetic pathology. All live sessions were recorded and the course will be made available online later this summer. Thank you to all who participated in this event!

You're Invited! AMP 2017

A message from the AMP 2017 Program Committee Chair,
Daniel E. Sabath, MD, PhD

It is my honor to invite you to attend the Association for Molecular Pathology (AMP) 2017 Annual Meeting from November 16-18, 2017 in Salt Lake City, Utah. We hope you will also join us for a full day of Corporate Workshops on Wednesday, November 15.

AMP is the leading organization in the field of molecular diagnostics, and our meeting is “the premier gathering” of molecular professionals. As technologies change and new challenges arise, members and non-members alike rely on our meeting to obtain the critical information needed to ensure that their patients receive the best care and best results.

The theme of our meeting this year will be, "Where Molecular Leads Medicine to Best Patient Care." Our Program Committee has been working hard to plan a comprehensive program, which we hope will encourage dialogue and foster discussion amongst attendees. Please be sure to check the AMP 2017 meeting website for all the latest information.

We look forward to seeing you in November!

On behalf of the 2017 AMP Program Committee,

Daniel E. Sabath, MD, PhD (Chair)

Highlights from AMP Global

On April 3-5, 2017, AMP held its inaugural Global Congress on Molecular Pathology. More than 500 attendees from all over the world gathered in Berlin, Germany, to learn about the latest developments in diagnostic technologies and their clinical applications.

The Global Congress brought together an international network of molecular professionals and representatives of the diagnostics industry to educate healthcare practitioners and to advance the value of molecular laboratories in providing high quality patient care. We hope that you will join us at the next Global Congress, which will be held in 2019 in Seoul, South Korea.
